112 Tourists From Thane Trapped In Nepal, Appeal For Swift Evacuation

Thane | September 11, 2025

A group of 112 tourists from Murbad taluka in Thane district, Maharashtra have been stranded in Nepal amid the ongoing political unrest and widespread protests. The tourists, who had travelled in separate groups, are currently stuck in Kathmandu and Pokhara, and have appealed for urgent help from Indian authorities to return home safely.

According to reports, 47 tourists are taking shelter in a hotel in Kathmandu, one of the worst-affected regions where violent protests have broken out, while 65 others are staying in Pokhara. The unrest, led largely by Nepal’s youth in what has been called the “Gen Z protests,” has intensified following restrictions on social media and growing anger over corruption and government instability. The demonstrations have turned violent in several areas, with curfews imposed and multiple casualties reported, leaving foreign visitors in a state of fear and uncertainty.

Back home, Murbad MLA Kisan Kathore has appealed to the Maharashtra government and the Ministry of External Affairs to take swift action to evacuate the stranded tourists. Families of those trapped have expressed deep concern about their safety, pointing out that food supplies are limited, travel routes are blocked, and the situation in Kathmandu is worsening with each passing day.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has issued advisories urging citizens to remain indoors and avoid protest-hit areas. Communication lines remain open, but flight disruptions and road blockades have made evacuation a challenging task. Many of the stranded tourists have sent video messages highlighting their fear and anxiety, pleading for immediate assistance to return to India.

The crisis underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts between the Indian government, Nepalese authorities, and the state administration of Maharashtra. With protests showing no signs of calming down, the demand for a swift evacuation plan has become the top priority for both officials and the families awaiting the safe return of their loved ones.
