Leh violence LIVE updates: Curfew imposed in Ladakh; heavy security in towns, 50 detained

Curfew Imposed in Leh After Sudden Violence

Leh in Ladakh has been placed under curfew after sudden violence broke out on Wednesday, leaving the town tense and uneasy. What started as a protest quickly spiraled into clashes, with incidents of stone-pelting and damage to shops and vehicles reported from several areas. The local administration, caught off guard by the scale of the unrest, moved swiftly to deploy additional forces and enforce strict curfew measures to prevent the situation from escalating further.

50 Detained as Security Tightened

Police have confirmed that nearly 50 individuals have been detained so far in connection with the violence. Security has been tightened across Leh, with personnel stationed at sensitive points, and patrolling intensified to ensure peace. Officials are also considering curbing internet services temporarily to prevent the spread of rumors and provocative messages on social media. While a few reports of minor injuries have surfaced, authorities have clarified that there have been no serious casualties so far.

Calls for Peace Amid Rising Political Tensions

Community leaders and local organizations have appealed to the people to maintain calm and not get carried away by misinformation. However, political voices in the region have criticized the administration, accusing it of being unprepared despite clear signs of tension over the past few weeks. The district administration has assured residents that essential services, including hospitals and emergency supplies, will remain unaffected during the curfew. Officials have said the situation is being closely monitored and a review will be conducted to decide how long the restrictions will remain in place.

The violence has raised fresh concerns about the stability of the region, which has often found itself in the spotlight due to political and social sensitivities. For now, Leh remains under watch, with hopes pinned on a peaceful resolution and quick restoration of normalcy.
