MD Issues Red Alert for Telangana, Heavy Rainfall Warnings for Bengal, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Telangana and heavy rainfall warnings for West Bengal, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh as the remnants of Cyclone Montha continue to move inland. The system, which has now weakened into a depression, is expected to bring intense rainfall, strong winds, and possible flash floods over the next 24 to 48 hours.

According to the IMD, several districts in Telangana may witness extremely heavy rain, prompting authorities to remain on high alert. Coastal and interior areas of Andhra Pradesh are also likely to experience widespread showers and gusty winds, while parts of West Bengal and Bihar could face waterlogging, river rise, and traffic disruptions. Disaster management teams have been placed on standby to handle any emergencies resulting from the heavy downpour.

Officials have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during heavy rain, and follow local advisories. The IMD has further warned of potential urban flooding and crop damage in low-lying areas. While Cyclone Montha continues to weaken, its impact is expected to persist for the next two days, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall across eastern and southern parts of the country.
