Noida Dowry Murder: Nikki Bhati’s In-Laws Arrested, Father-In-Law Still on the Run

Greater Noida, August 25, 2025 — The shocking murder of 26-year-old Nikki Bhati in Greater Noida has once again brought the brutal reality of dowry-related violence to the forefront. Police have now arrested her brother-in-law, Rohit Bhati, and her mother-in-law, Daya Bhati, while her husband, Vipin Bhati, is already in custody. However, Nikki’s father-in-law, Satyaveer Bhati, remains absconding and a manhunt is underway.

Fresh Arrests in the Case

According to police, Rohit Bhati was arrested near Sirsa toll in Haryana on charges of murder and conspiracy. Vipin, who had earlier attempted to flee, was shot in the leg during a police encounter before being placed in 14-day judicial custody. His mother, Daya Bhati, was also taken into custody soon after.

Authorities are now intensifying efforts to track down Satyaveer Bhati, believed to be directly involved in the crime.

The Incident

Investigations reveal that Nikki faced constant harassment over dowry demands, despite her family having already given expensive gifts including a Scorpio SUV, motorcycle, and lakhs in cash. The demands allegedly escalated to ₹36 lakh.

On the night of the incident, Nikki was reportedly slapped, doused with an inflammable substance, and set on fire with a lighter inside her in-laws’ home. Her young son and sister were present and witnessed the horrific act.

Her sister later testified that she saw the family members pouring a liquid on Nikki before setting her ablaze.

A Father’s Pain

Nikki’s father, Bhikhari Singh Payla, has demanded the harshest punishment for the accused. “They killed my daughter out of greed and because of Vipin’s illicit affair. They don’t deserve to live,” he said, breaking down in front of reporters.

National Outrage

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and demanded a full report from the Uttar Pradesh DGP within three days. Women’s rights groups have also called for strict action, stating that this case is a grim reminder of how the menace of dowry continues to destroy lives.
