RJD’s Early Ticket Distribution Sparks Tension in Mahagathbandhan as Bihar Polls Near

As the deadline for filing nominations for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections inches closer, uncertainty continues to cloud the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led Mahagathbandhan. The opposition alliance, which includes the Congress and Left parties, has yet to announce its seat-sharing arrangement — a delay that is now raising eyebrows within political circles.

Amid the growing suspense, RJD patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav appears to have taken matters into his own hands. On Monday, the veteran leader reportedly distributed party tickets to several candidates of his choice, even before a final consensus was reached within the alliance.

Sources suggest that Lalu’s move has not gone down well with Mahagathbandhan partners, who were expecting a collective decision on seat allocation. The Congress, in particular, is said to be seeking a larger share of seats, while the Left parties are pressing for early clarity to kickstart their campaign preparations.

Political observers view Lalu’s decision as a sign of RJD asserting its dominance within the alliance. With RJD being the largest constituent of the Mahagathbandhan, the party appears keen on setting the tone for the campaign and ensuring that its loyalists secure winnable constituencies.

However, this assertiveness could come at a cost. Analysts warn that unilateral moves by RJD may trigger internal friction just weeks before the crucial polls. The delay in formal seat-sharing and growing dissatisfaction among allies could also affect the opposition’s unity on the ground — something the ruling NDA is likely to capitalize on.

With nomination dates fast approaching, all eyes are now on the Mahagathbandhan’s next move. Will the alliance present a united front in the coming days, or will internal differences overshadow its campaign narrative?

For now, Lalu Prasad’s early ticket distribution has set the stage for an intense political drama — one that could shape the tone of Bihar’s 2025 election battle.
