Shubman Gill’s Straightforward Take On ‘Captain’ Rohit Sharma After ODI Leadership Change

New Delhi:
As India witnesses a major shift in its ODI leadership, young batting sensation Shubman Gill has spoken out with heartfelt words for Rohit Sharma, the man he succeeds as captain. In a display of maturity and respect, Gill praised Rohit’s leadership style, crediting him for shaping his own growth as a cricketer.

“Rohit bhai has been an incredible leader — calm, composed, and always thinking for the team,” Gill said during a recent interaction. “I’ve learned so much from him, not just about captaincy, but about handling pressure, backing your players, and staying grounded no matter the situation.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently confirmed the leadership change, signaling the beginning of a new era with Gill taking charge of India’s ODI setup. The move is seen as part of the team’s long-term planning, with an eye on building a young, dynamic core for the next World Cup cycle.

Despite the change, Gill was quick to highlight that Rohit’s presence in the dressing room remains invaluable.

“Even though I’m leading now, Rohit bhai’s role in the team doesn’t change. His experience and game awareness are unmatched. I’ll always look to him for advice because he’s one of the best cricketing minds out there,” Gill said.

Rohit Sharma’s stint as ODI captain was marked by consistency, composure, and a deep understanding of the game. Under his leadership, India enjoyed several memorable victories and maintained a strong global standing in limited-overs cricket.

For Gill, the challenge now is to carry forward that legacy while bringing in his own energy and fresh perspective. The young opener has already shown leadership qualities in domestic and franchise cricket, and his calm temperament makes him a natural choice to lead India’s next generation.

As fans bid farewell to one chapter and welcome another, one thing is clear — the bond between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill goes far beyond captaincy. It’s a story of mentorship, respect, and the seamless passing of the torch from one generation to the next.
