Karwa Chauth, one of the most significant festivals for married Hindu women, will be observed across India with devotion and tradition in 2025. The day marks a time when wives observe a day-long fast for the well-being and longevity of their husbands, breaking it only after sighting the moon. This year, the festival comes with a very specific and short window for the puja muhurat and moonrise time, which every devotee must note carefully.
According to the Hindu Panchang, the Karwa Chauth 2025 puja muhurat will last from 5:57 PM to 7:11 PM. During this period, women perform the evening rituals, listen to the Karwa Chauth Katha, and offer prayers to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva for their husband’s prosperity and good health.
The fasting period will begin early in the morning at 6:19 AM and will continue until 8:13 PM, when the moon is expected to rise. The moonrise time this year is estimated to be around 8:12 PM, after which women can offer arghya (water offering) to the moon and finally break their fast by looking at their husbands through a sieve and having the first sip of water and food.
Astrologers advise devotees to follow the muhurat timings strictly to ensure the rituals are performed at the most auspicious period. Since the puja muhurat is relatively short, preparations should begin in advance to avoid missing the sacred window.
The festival of Karwa Chauth symbolizes love, faith, and devotion between married couples. It is not only a ritual but a heartfelt celebration of marital harmony, where women dress beautifully, adorn themselves with henna, and gather together for community prayers and festivities.
